Now that I had time to calm down a little
Jessica and Steph asked me to let them know what I thought about the Indiana Jones movie, knowing what a die-hard Indy fan I am. (As in I went into it and watched the entire thing wearing my Indy hat and brown jacket, hehehe)
In summary, if you liked National Treasure, you'll probably like the movie.
And as most of you know, I DO NOT like National Treasure and I was usually very annoyed that anybody ever compared the two movies in the past.
As a movie, not an Indiana Jones movie, it was okay. I would give it a B- or so. Not too bad.
Let's think about the good parts:
*Some good humor between Indy and the stupid Transformers kid (who I believe is probably going to be in every movie that doesn't necessarily RAPE my fond memories of the past, but gently molests them). I especially liked the "grab the snake" scene. In fact, the Transformers kid didn't do too bad for himself. His character was even okay and I think he probably is a decent actor.
*Harrison Ford is still very cool, and really did a good job as Indy.
*They put in several references from the past movies for the fans.
*Some decent fight scenes.
*They referenced some interesting things, like the Nazca lines, etc. Which I always loved reading about as a kid.
*Some scenes that make you really remember how cool Indy was.
*They did not end the movie with the kid as his heir/legacy/new Indy. I really liked the last scene, it was very smooth-cool-awesome-Indy.
Now some bad:
*WTF Aliens? Really? How cliche is that? And how poorly done and out of place. I know they tried to have it like Indy didn't believe it in, etc... but seriously, how obvious was the spaceship from the beginning? Right when you see the skull, which is early in the movie, you think... "I really really hope it's not aliens. I REALLY HOPE SO.
*Plot holes that you could ride an elephant through. Which I don't think is a big deal, but I know that some of you readers care about that.
*Tarzan scene. I really don't know HOW that did not get left on the cutting room floor.
*It really did not feel like an Indy movie. Where was the adventure? It felt subsidiary to the other parts of the story. The actual work to solve things was very different from the past Indiana movies, instead we got mostly the typical National Treasure lead up of, "Oh... this is THIS, and this... means THIS!!! and THIS!"
How to enjoy the movie:
*Don't expect an Indiana Jones movie. My mistake as not realizing that they really could not make it another Indiana Jones movie.
*Expect a movie more along the lines of an epilogue to the story and you'll probably be happy.
In conclusion, I do think the movie is worth seeing if you really really like Indiana Jones, especially because being on the big screen helps. The special effects were very well done. For non-diehard fans, I think the movie is entertaining so it's worth just seeing to kill time and hang out. I am disappointed, and I will just try to remember the movies as they were originally and think of the new Indy as something similar the the prequels of Star Wars... but the movie WAS better than those at least... thank god.
However, if they made another, I would watch it simply to see Harrison Ford some more. :-p And yes, I think for the general populace, it is a toss up between Indiana Jones and watching Iron Man for the fourth (yes, FOURTH) time.
I still love Indiana Jones though. So I'll be okay. :-p
